Turnout gear lockers for fire departments offer firefighters the most durable, secure storage solution on the market. It is virtually impossible to pry them open, so firefighters can use their fire department lockers for personal storage as well as gear storage. Lockers are custom built with combination locks that are keyed to a master key so the fire chief has emergency access to the locker if necessary.
Unlike wall mounted lockers and mobile lockers made from wire, all welded fire department lockers feature an all-welded construction. There are no screws, nuts, or bolts used to assemble the units. The entire storage unit is composed of sheets of metal welded into one contiguous surface.
This makes the locker impervious to being broken or pried open. Fire department lockers are so secure, in fact, that military personnel commonly use them to store special equipment, weapons, and sensitive documents. Police departments also use them to store gear and weapons.
Turnout gear lockers are made to keep everything inside well-ventilated, cool, and dray. Diamond perforations in the door and on the sides maintain constant airflow to keep clothing and gear dry.
Additionally, locker interiors are designed with organization and easy retrieval of gear foremost in mind. One of the biggest advantages that this style of fire department locker offers is the ability to customize interior storage space to the personal needs of the individual firefighter.
Each fire department gear locker comes with one heavy duty industrial shelf. This shelf can be adjusted to create a top cubby storage locker custom to the needs of the firefighter.
Since it is essential that firefighters retrieve their gear as quickly as possible, having a shelf that can be placed at any level allows each fireman create just the right amount of equipment storage space.
Equipment that firefighters commonly place in the top cubby of their turnout gear lockers include fire helmets, face masks, fire proof bandannas, and gloves. These items can be stored at the most convenient height so every item can be neatly organized and rapidly retrieved, and donned in emergencies where ever second matters.
Beneath the top shelf, the remainder of the turnout gear locker features a long, vertical storage cube fitted with two hooks. Here, fire fighters can hang their jackets and their turnout pants. and they still have plenty of room for air bottles and boots at the bottom.
Normally, fire department lockers are ordered with an extra shelf that is situated close to the floor. This keeps the boots elevated so they can dry out more quickly. It also makes them easier to retrieve.
Adding a second shelf near the bottom of turnout gear lockers creates a small, second cubby storage area right above the floor. It provides an ideal storage area for wallets, personal vehicle keys, jewelry, and any other personal valuable the firefighter brings to the station.
Many firemen also use this bottom cubby to store additional pairs of socks, gloves, bandannas, and any other small pieces of equipment that they may need in the performance of their duties.
