How to Breack Dance
by
Elle Kai
Break dancing is an amazing past time and creative way to express ones self! We have all seen or heard of the recent height of hip hop and its dances. These dances have evolved from break dancing. I first came across this form of dance through commercials and old movies. Around 8th or 9th grade I was privileged to see it in person, from that day forward I made it a point to learn and on occasion teach . This dance witch can be made up many different dances. There are no set forms or stringent positions to memorize or fallow. You move the way you want to or the way the music moves you! As I said before it’s a dance of expression. So were to begin, most people think break dancing got its name from the painful looking move that are performed. In reality the name is from the break in a song. The part were the lyrics stop and all that’s left is the beat that moves you. When dancing you can have a slower more stylized dance or a fast paced power move filled set.The first step is an up rock witch is a stylized way of shuffling back and forth, displaying your own creativity. From there you go into a style or power set. The style generally requires a lot of flexibility , witch I don’t have. So gravitated to power moves. Contrary to popular belief power move don’t take a great amount of strength . They do demand a mix of balance and speed with a little strength attached. The best advise that I can give to someone that wants to learn how to break dance is to find someone that already knows how. Then start working out and stretching, your going to need it. Try to do some of the simple moves they do. Once you get some of the basics down start developing your own style. From there you can dance with your friends for fun, or develop a crew to dance at clubs, events or battles.
