Watch Pacquiao vs Bradley live. While the eternaldisappointment of not seeing Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather remains, inits place we were given two high quality match-ups. On Pacquiao’s end, he meetsan undefeated, top 10 pound for pound fighter in Timothy Bradley, a guy who’sregarded as the best in the world at junior welterweight. Not bad for a backupopponent.
Watch Pacquiao vs Bradley liveonline. In some ways though, I believe that Pacquiao got the short end of the stick. He’s in tough here with a capable opponent who has never tasted defeated anddoesn’t know how to surrender.
Thecredentials, skills and toughness are all there. He’s more than willing to makethings a bit rough-and-tumble if that’s in his favor. Bradley is alsodeceptively quick. His handspeed isn’t blazing, but he puts himself in theright position with his footwork, and he showcases strong timing and intuitionwhen unleashing his attack.
Ifhe’s to win this fight, he’ll need to stay behind a constant double jab.Bradley actually has a slight reach advantage, so he should be able to pop hisjab off while coming forward to get inside of Pacquiao’s power punches.
Thatshould help him to neutralize Pacquiao’s favorite shot, his lead straight left.Once he’s inside, it’s time to tie him up, hold onto him, keep him out ofrhythm, push him off… all of those rough, ugly tactics with which he canexcel.
Thekey will be to get off first and to stay behind the jab at all times. Bradleycan’t trade with Pacquiao; he’s not a power puncher, and I think his chin wouldeventually betray him there. He’d be wise to borrow a page from Marquez andprioritize establishing outside foot position, while perhaps keeping Pacquiao abit off balance by stepping on his foot for good measure.
FreddieRoach won’t let Pacquiao fall victim to that again though, at least not againstsomebody besides Marquez, who simply has preeminent skills. Instead, expectPacquiao to try to use his own jab a bit instead of relying solely on thestraight left. He’ll showcase some of that trademark in-and-out offense whichhas always been so effective for him.
Bradleyis there to be hit, and Pacquiao will abide him. It will be easy enough withhis lightning quick straight shots. Once he’s more comfortable, he should alsobe able to finish off his combinations with zinging hooks. He’ll have to focuson getting in and out quickly though, so as not to be tied up and roughed up onthe inside. That means he may end up sticking solely with the straight stuffunless Bradley looks like he’s on his way out.
“Doeshe have enough to take Manny out?” pondered Konz:”I don’t know. Idon’t think so. Manny is my boss and it doesn’t matter. No, Manny is notunderestimating him. As a matter of fact we’ve already started talking aboutwhat we are going to do in training camp. But the truth of the matter is thatBradley doesn’t have to win this fight. As long as Bradley goes twelvecompetitive rounds with Manny his life will change forever. He will be at thatnext level and be the superstar and maybe take the torch from Manny when Mannyretires. And I hope all the best for Bradley. It’s going to be an excitingfight.”
Bradley’slife is not going to change unless people think he does enough to beat MannyPacquiao, and honestly probably not even then. Did Juan Manuel Marquez become amegastar because he almost beat Pacquiao? Well he’s fighting a no name opponenton independent PPV, what a life-changer! Bradley’s life will change if he beatsPacquiao. Otherwise there will just be excuses from the Pacquiao camp about howhe wasn’t at his best. Do you think Bradley’s life will change if he loses toPacquiao?
Byescaping everyday routines and demands in a remote training camp, a fighter canspend his days focusing on the match-up to the exclusion of anything else.
Havingtried it once before, though, Bradley has decided that traveling training campsdon’t work for him.
Bradley, the WBO light welterweight champion, says he draws strength from familiarsurroundings and motivation from hometown fans. So he is staying home in the Coachella Valleyto train for his June 9 bout against boxer-of-the-decade Manny Pacquiao in apay-per-view event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Bradleyfinds that maintaining a sense of normalcy in his life keeps him fresh for thefight, free from burn-out.
Ithink the balance is, when I go home, I don’t think about the gym anymore. Idon’t think about the fight, Bradley said. I think about my family and ittakes me away from the fight zone. Thinking about the fight constantly candrain you.
Sincewinning his first world title in 2008, Bradley’s profile has risen in the Coachella Valley. He said he constantly receiveshonks and cheers from fans driving by as he logs up to 10 miles a day on hismorning runs through Palm Springs.
Theroadwork is only the start of Bradley’s day as more conditioning work followsat Palm Springs High School. Bradley then makes the30-minute drive to the Indio Boys & Girls Club to focus on his boxing.
WhileBradley’s undefeated record is impressive, he hasn’t exactly been facing elitecompetition.
Hismost recent victories were dominant knockouts, but that’s not saying much, considering he was fighting an inexperienced Devon Alexander and a washed-upJoel Casamayor. Before that, he easily dispatched 27 other scrubs.
Ofcourse, it would be silly to say Bradley hasn’t fought anyone of Pacquiao’scaliber, because nobody outside of Mayweather is on Pac-Man’s level. However,it’s concerning that Bradley is taking on the champ without having faced anyoneremotely close to Pacquiao’s ability.
Pacquiao’sunique blend of speed, power, experience and aggressiveness will be unlikeanything Bradley has ever seen. The Filipino phenom has destroyed far moreseasoned fighters than Bradley, and I’m expecting the kid to be overwhelmedfrom the start.
Pacquiaovs. Bradley Prediction
Sometimeback around 2008 I swore off picking against Bradley. The guy finds a way towin, he just does, and it’s probably his biggest strength in the ring. Ofcourse, that kind of stance has to come with an exception clause of sorts I’ll never pick against Bradley… unless he faces Pacquiao or Mayweather.
That’swhere we are here, and make no mistake about it, I’m tempted to take Bradleyagainst what is perhaps a physically and emotionally tired Manny Pacquiao.Especially given the favorable odds, taking Bradley as an upset winner has hadme thinking.
Ultimatelythough, I’m going to be exercising that exception clause. Bradley’s best chanceto win is to make this an ugly affair, and he’s capable of doing that. However,to succeed he’ll have to get in Pacquiao’s face, and that means walking throughthe incoming fire. Bradley has been dropped and hurt before, and the sheerspeed and unexpected approach of Pacquiao’s shots will make them hard for himto avoid.
